How do you Make Success Mandatory?

As many of you know, Tyler and I both graduated in May. Which means this is the first summer in 4 years that I haven’t been working on a summer class. (Woo-hooo!!) Before college, I always loved to spend my free time reading. I’ll read pretty much anything, but I love magazines and fiction books. Once I started college.. my free time wasn’t spent reading magazines or books of choice – it was spent reading business textbooks and working on online classes.

Now that I graduated, it feels as if I have so much more free time to do the things I really enjoy. I made a promise this summer to devote some of my free time to reading (at least 10 minutes a day!) So far I’ve read quite a few health and fitness books, along with some lighter reads like Gone Girl and Me Before You.

Last week I dug into Make Success Mandatory: Discovering Your Gift & Giving It Back To The World by my fellow FitFluential Ambassador-Jeremy Scott. Jeremy Scott is a passionate Coach, Athlete, and Trainer, gluten free eater and fitness junkie. You can read more about him and why he is so awesome – here.

I was skeptical to read this book at first…I don’t typically like to read books like this about personal success or motivation. Quite honestly, every book like this that I have read has been a bunch of mindless fluff. You know the books I’m taking about.. the cover has something catchy on it, so you buy it and read a few chapters, only to sit there and wonder what the heck you just read, and how it even pertains to your life.

Make Success Mandatory was NOT one of those books. This book is short, but packed with valuable pieces of advice and insight. If you’re currently struggling to find motivation or decide where you want to go in life – this book is for you (and me.. because I’m currently at this point in my life!). Throughout the book Jeremy shares 22 exercises for you to participate in to help reach your own success. These exercises highlight how to really determine your true passion and then go after it so that you can share it with the world. The book has a big focus on looking within, and making decisions based on who you really are and what you really want.

Jeremy is very candid, and easy to relate to. As I read the book I actually found myself nodding along to what he had written.. agreeing with many of the things he suggested. I also loved that there were tons of really inspirational quotes throughout the book. One quote in particular really stood out to me: “We can’t control many of the things that happen to us but we can always control our attitude towards those things.”  I try to live by this quote. Our attitudes are so important in our daily lives, especially if we have any hopes of being successful in our passions.

I highly recommend this book. Jeremy’s advice is relevant to anyone who is looking to be a better version of themselves. We all have room to improve, and Jeremy has some great tips on how to do so.

Jeremy also has a cook book out! The Get Lean Gluten Free Cookbook is loaded with awesome information. The book starts off with 9 tips to go gluten free. With #1 being ‘Ditch the word diet’ (AKA music to my ears) I could go on an on about how much I hate the word diet but I’ll save that for another day!

The cookbook has a 10 day step by step guide complete with meal plans and recipes to keep you on track. It is pretty much a fool proof guide on how to eat healthy. It would be the perfect read for anyone confused on going gluten free, or interested in diving into healthy eating. All of the recipes are extremely simple and look amazing!
